6. Report of Township Supervisor:
Supervisor Clarke advised that the refuse committee met with officials of Maine Township, Cook County. They are
administering a refuse collection program through ARC. Their contract goes until 2016. The program
used totes, not stickers. The Township gets a 1% administration fee, which is used to pay the expense of picking up
refuse in right-of-ways. The Township uses a Code Enforcement Officer to monitor households not using the Township
program. Refuse collection is a mandatory service. The next meeting of the refuse committee is this
Saturday
7. Reports of Township Officers: Assessor
Trowbridge reported that he had to replace the phone system after a severe lightning strike destroyed the old system. He
had to use his entire budget for equipment for the year. An insurance claim will be filed.
About two weeks
ago, an irate taxpayer apparently threatened staff. A police report was filed. Mr. Trowbridge is looking
into additional security for the building.
8. Other Business: Clerk Tarulis reported
that the Board of Election Commissioners is asking the Township to provide a facility and staff for early voting next
October. They anticipate a heavy voter turnout, and are trying to arrange as many early voting sites as
possible. The lobby of the Supervisor’s building is too small. The basement of the Assessor’s office
is available, but no staff are working downstairs. Board agreed that they would make the lower level of the Assessor’s
building available from one-half hour after normal opening hours to one-half-hour prior to normal closing time, Monday through Friday, but
no staff. Clerk Tarulis will notify the Board of Elections.
